MEMBERS ONLY
Co-op Classes Being Offered
HLACNY plans on working together with families to offer co-op classes for members.  Fees will be determined for classes and an additional fee will be in place for non-members to help pay for insurance and facility fees which are paid by membership dues.  As classes are approved, they will appear here on this list as well as instructions on how to register.

 

If you are interested in offering a class, please fill out the class description form here and submit it to HLACNY via email.  If you are interested in offering a class but want help planning and developing the class we are more than happy to help develop a class for you to facilitate. Please email us and we can help you set something up.


The Co-op meets at St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Camillus.

2 and Under
Nursery ProgramFeel comfortable leaving your young child in our nursery room while you teach a class or take a class with another child.  Children will be in the nursery room with age appropriate toys and other moms who will be there to supervise (and snuggle).  Parents with babies are free to use this room with their young ones for free but if you choose to drop off a child there for a period, there is an enrollment fee of $10.  Enrollment fees will be waived for any parent teaching a class during that period.

Forensic Science Investigations
Come help solve mock criminal cases using forensic science skills. We will be investigating the Case of the Lost Skull.

Drama
Our drama club will begin its first big production.  This time around, the drama club will work for two sessions (12 weeks) to put together a Spring production.  If you register for this class, you must be willing to continue into the next session as well.  Some reading skills required.

Science: Electricity
CLOSED- FULL ENROLLMENT
Students will learn through many hands on activities to make electrical circuits as well as other electrical "gadgets" which will foster a understanding of how electricity works. There will not be any "take home" projects in this class however students will use an science journal. Some reading skills will be required.  Maximum 10 students.

Lego Engineering

Kids will work in teams to design and build solutions to thought provoking challenges. Each child should bring their own tub of LEGOs to class each week. Class maximum 10 children.

 Music Appreciation
Listen and draw to a few pieces of classical music especially written for kids, i.e. Carnival of the animals by Saint-Saens, Peter and the wolf by Prokofiev, A young persons guide to the orchestra by Britten. Learn to recognize the sound of the different instruments in an orchestra and understand how they work. Learn to play a little bit of piano and violin. (Repeat of Fall Session 2 class--same material will be covered)

Music Appreciation
Learn music history from the time we knew how to write music until today, incl. jazz, classical, rock, pop. Learn how to identify the different periods of music by listening to typical examples. Learn about the development of the orchestra and recognize the sounds of the instruments and how they work. Touch on a few of the most important composers in classical music as we go through the history. Learn basic music theory and apply to learning a few children's songs on piano and violin.

Art Clay Creations

CLOSED- FULL ENROLLMENT

Come explore the art of clay as we create using both additive and subtractive methods.  Using clay we will create items and paint them.  Our imaginations are our only limitations. Class maximum 10 students

Science: Solids Liquids, and Gasses
Explore the different states of matter by doing some experiments with solids, liquids, and gasses. This is a REPEAT class that was offered in May of 2009.  If you already took this class, you may not want to take it again as it will be the same experiments. Class maximum 10 students
